5 Tips Busy Moms need For A Healthy New Years Resolution

Here are 5 tips that even the busiest of moms can find useful on their yearlong quest to be healthier in 2015.

Tip #1 For A Healthy New Years Resolution: Set A Specific Goal

A New Years resolution is basically a long-term goal. You have twelve months to achieve it. In order to stay focused you need to set up several short-term goals or “mini resolutions” to get there. For busy moms this may seem like too much. Don’t worry though, the mini resolutions will keep you motivated as you achieve them.

So let’s get specific about what you want to achieve this year. I want to be healthier as my New Years resolution. I want to lower my body fat percentage (BMI) by at least 5%. I also want really defined and noticeable abs. In order to reach my goal for the year I set a weekly goal of working out 6 days a week. Yours maybe 5 days a week or less though. My monthly goal is to lost .5% body fat. I am also going to prep my lunches for work once a week and drink Shakeology daily. Through the use of the daily, weekly and monthly goals/mini-resolutions I will achieve my ultimate goal of a healthy New Years resolution.

In summary, set mini resolutions and reward yourself when you achieve them.

Tip #2 For A Healthy New Years Resolution: Go At Your Own Pace

If you haven’t worked out in a while or have eaten unhealthy for years you shouldn’t go “all in” with your resolution by working out six days a week and eating nothing but healthy food. I have found from my fitness clients that when they start out full steam ahead as s newbie they burn out very quickly. This is because they aren’t used to the major change in routine from their normal unhealthy lifestyle. I suggest starting out in steps with eliminating the most unhealthy foods from your diet first like pop, fried foods and junk food. Then start introducing healthier foods in its place. For instance, instead of chips or pop you can substitute almonds and flavored water. I also recommend a short and non-evasive cleanse to jump-start your metabolism and get some quick weight loss results before starting your diet and workout program. I offer my fitness clients an easy 3 Day cleanse called the 3 Day Refresh
It’s a great program that allows you to eat two healthy meals and one shake for three days while naturally cleansing your body. The results have been great with clients losing between 3 to 11 lbs and several inches in just 3 days. This type of program really motivates them to continue on because of the results they will see right away.

Tip #3 For A Healthy New Years Resolution: Workout 5 Days A Week

If a cleanse isn’t your thing I suggest starting a program with workouts that are no longer than 30 minutes a day and about 5 days a week. Two of the most popular programs for busy mom that follow this plan are: T25 and Insanity Max:30.

T25 is an awesome workout for any fitness level and the workouts are only 25 minutes a day, five days a week.

Insanity Max:30 was just released in December and is really showing great results from the test groups. The workouts are 30 minutes a day, five days a week. The program is intense but there is an option to modify the workouts by choosing to “lock the screen” on the modifier to follow along. Because of this option, Any fitness level can do the workouts without worry.

Tip#4 For A Healthy New Years Resolution: Use portion control for eating

If you find that you can motivate yourself to workout, but you eat like crap then you are never going to reach your healthy New Years resolution. I’ve found that controlling the portions you eat for each meal will really help in getting a grasp on what you should be eating each day. I’ve had a tremendous change in my body once I adopted this way of eating. I first started the portion control eating system when I started doing the 21 Day Fix program. This completely changed my way of thinking when it came to healthy eating. I realized that I didn’t eat enough fruits or enough healthy fat daily. It also helped me control how much of everything I ate during the day. I was able to lose 9 lbs in 3 weeks which was amazing to me since I was stuck at a weight loss plateau during this time. The containers for the program are color-coated and sized for each of the food groups too.

As a result of the success of the 21 Day Fix container system, Insanity Max:30 has also incorporated the same eating plan with the program too. If you order the deluxe system you will get the containers along with a ton of extras with your Insanity Max:30 program.

Portion control eating is so easy and is must have for anyone who struggles with healthy eating or for someone who is busy and needs something to hold them accountable for what they eat.

Staying hydrated during the day is also crucial. I struggle with drinking water. I seriously have the biggest problem with drinking 8 cups of water a day. I carry around a shaker cup filled with two cups of water wherever I go. I just continuously sip throughout the day. Water will help you feel full to help binge eating as well as nourish your skin and muscles. It can actually help you look younger.

Tip#5 For A Healthy New Years Resolution: Stay Accountable

If you want to stay on track with your resolution and mini-resolutions you need to hold yourself accountable. This means logging your food on a tally sheet like this or using a program like My Fitness Pal.

5 Tips For A Healthy New Years Resolution It also means logging your workouts and the amount of water you drink each day. Another great way to stay accountable is to find others to join you on your journey and check in with them daily to see how they did. Comparing your tally sheets and workouts can help keep both of you motivated. If you don’t have anyone locally you can also join workout groups online on Facebook or Instagram. I offer all my clients a private support group on Facebook. The women are really supportive of each other and we share our successes and failures openly to help others. I have the group check in daily to post their workouts as well as food accountability. I also offer challenges that award prizes to the clients based on a pint system of accountability and support. This really gets the ladies excited because who doesn’t like to win stuff!

If you would like to join the private group add me as a friend on Facebook and send me a private message.
